Parmelee-Hill Vineyards decided in 2001 to begin making a limited amount of high-end syrah under our own label. To make the type of wine we wanted meant sourcing a winemaker of the highest caliber to make it. We found him in Don Van Staaveren of Chateau St. Jean fame. Don has been the sole winemaker for Parmelee-Hill and we work closely with him throughout the year in the field to ensure the best syrah possible goes into the Parmelee-Hill bottle. The following are Don’s notes on the Parmelee-Hill vintages.
2004 "Block B" Syrah "Our fourth vintage is highlighted with a Syrah that has fantastic balance with a light fruity nose from our Vella Block (like the '03) and some tannic backbone from our Diablo Vista Block (like the '02) The '04 Syrah is dark and rich in color with very vibrant hues. Aromas of dark fruit and black cherry wrapped up with sweet oak, vanilla and clove. Tasting highlights ripe, juicy fruit of cherry and black plum with a full and ripe finish. The wine's body is supple and smooth with good tannin balance and texture. 390 cases produced.

2006 "Darcy" Marsanne/Rousanne
Parmelee-Hill's first try at making a white wine and we hit a home run. A wonderful, crisp mouthfull of flavors. Our winemaker's comments include attractive color, fresh vibrant and exotic aromas. A juicyand ripe wine with a lively finish. We know you will like it. 46 cases produced.

2005 NIGHT CAP 'Zinrah' Red Wine
A deeply colored, a bright blend of Zinfandel and Syrah from our vineyards. Blackberry and black raspberry along with cherry and cinnamon flavors. A little sweet nutmeg and very well-balanced oak round out this very well-made wine.

2004 NIGHT CAP Syrah Port
The name couldn’t say it any better! Our Syrah Port is a great way to top off a nice evening out with friends or at home by a fire. My wife Erika and I have come to love port so much we decided we’d have to have some made with our syrah fruit as a compliment to our “Parmelee-Hill” syrah. Night Cap was made in the traditional port manner. The grapes were harvested at a slightly higher sugar, then the fermentation was stopped using high-proof grape alcohol instead of brandy. This isn’t one of those ports that’s “hot” on alcohol: The syrah fruit absolutely bursts through. Offered in a 500 ml silk screened bottle we think you’ll be impressed by the package and the product!
